Acoustic Imaging
Ultrasonic acoustic imaging across 2 kHz–100 kHz to detect and locate faults invisible to the eye. Detects: partial discharge in switchgear and transformers, compressed air and gas leaks, steam trap failures, mechanical bearing defects, vacuum leaks, and electrical arcing — all while equipment remains live and in service.
Vibration Analysis
Did You Know?
Most Faults Give Early Warning
The majority of rotating machinery faults — including bearing defects, imbalance, misalignment, looseness, and resonance — produce detectable vibration signatures well before catastrophic failure occurs. A bearing defect, for example, can be detected weeks or even months in advance when the right measurement techniques are applied. This means that with a structured vibration monitoring program, most unplanned shutdowns are entirely preventable.
Vibration Reveals What Eyes Cannot See
Vibration analysis is one of the most powerful predictive maintenance technologies available. A single vibration spectrum can simultaneously reveal imbalance, misalignment, looseness, bearing wear, gear mesh problems, and resonance — all without stopping the machine or opening it up.
Recommendation from Mobius Institute
Establish a regular vibration monitoring route on all critical rotating assets — motors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, and compressors. Measurements should be taken at consistent intervals (monthly for critical machines, quarterly for general plant) and trended over time.

Laser Shaft Alignment
Did You Know?
Misalignment is the #1 Cause of Bearing Failure
Shaft misalignment is one of the leading root causes of premature bearing and seal failure in rotating machinery. Even a small angular or parallel offset between a motor and pump shaft creates cyclic bending forces that dramatically shorten bearing life — often reducing it by 50% or more.
Laser Alignment Pays for Itself Immediately
Precision laser shaft alignment consistently delivers measurable returns: reduced energy consumption (studies show 2–10% energy savings on aligned machines), extended bearing and seal life, reduced vibration levels, fewer unplanned shutdowns, and lower maintenance costs over the asset lifecycle.
Recommendation from Mobius Institute
Perform precision laser shaft alignment on every motor-driven machine after installation, after any maintenance that involves removing or replacing a motor or driven equipment, and as part of any planned shutdown.
Recommendation from Mobius Institute
Perform precision laser shaft alignment on every motor-driven machine after installation, after any maintenance that involves removing or replacing a motor or driven equipment, and as part of any planned shutdown. Never assume a machine is aligned because it was aligned before — thermal growth, pipe strain, and foundation settling all cause alignment to drift over time.
Acoustic Imaging
Did You Know?
Acoustic imaging uses an array of microphones to visualise sound — converting ultrasonic frequencies into a colour-coded heatmap overlaid on a live camera image. Our Fortic Acoustic Camera operates across 2 kHz–100 kHz, detecting faults that are completely invisible to thermal cameras, vibration sensors, or the naked eye.
What Acoustic Imaging Detects

Partial Discharge Detection
Partial discharge (PD) in high-voltage switchgear, transformers, and cable terminations emits ultrasonic energy in the 20–100 kHz range. Acoustic imaging pinpoints the exact source of PD activity on live equipment — without contact, without shutdown, and without risk to personnel. Early PD detection prevents insulation breakdown, arc flash events, and catastrophic transformer failure.
Compressed Air & Gas Leak Detection
Compressed air leaks are one of the largest sources of energy waste in industrial plants — studies estimate 20–30% of compressed air is lost to leaks. The Fortic camera instantly locates leaks in pipework, fittings, valves, and pneumatic systems from a safe distance, even in noisy plant environments where traditional ultrasonic probes struggle.
Steam Trap & Valve Diagnostics
Failed-open steam traps waste significant energy and increase carbon emissions. Acoustic imaging identifies both failed-open and failed-closed steam traps, as well as passing valves and internal bypass leaks — all without insulation removal or contact with hot surfaces.
Mechanical Bearing & Gear Defects
Early-stage bearing defects, gear mesh anomalies, and lubrication failures produce characteristic high-frequency acoustic signatures well before they appear in standard vibration spectra. Acoustic imaging adds a complementary detection layer — particularly useful on slow-speed machinery where vibration analysis has limited sensitivity.
Electrical Arcing & Corona
Arcing, corona discharge, and tracking on electrical busbars, insulators, and cable joints produce intense ultrasonic emissions. The Fortic camera locates these sources on live MV/HV equipment from a safe standoff distance, enabling targeted maintenance before a fault escalates to an outage or fire.
Vacuum Leak Detection
Vacuum systems in process plants, laboratories, and power generation equipment are susceptible to leaks that degrade process efficiency. Acoustic imaging detects the turbulent flow signature of vacuum leaks quickly and accurately, even in areas with background noise.
Acoustic Imaging
All inspections are performed on live, in-service equipment — no shutdown required.

The moisture content of the liquid insulation (the oil) is only a partial indicator of the amount of moisture in a transformer. The paper insulation has 100 times or more affinity for moisture compared to the oil. The paper's lifespan is cut in half every time the moisture content doubles.
This is important because the paper is the primary limiting factor in the life of a transformer. Moisture in the paper will accelerate the oxidation process — compromising the paper, weakening the unit's efficiency, decreasing dielectric strength, increasing the risk of flashover, and eventually leading to failure. The paper's lifespan is cut in half every time the moisture content doubles. And every year of delay in fixing the problem chips away at approximately two years of reliable service.
Recommendation: It is best practice to filter your transformer oil every 2 years to maintain dielectric strength, remove moisture and contaminants, and extend the life of both the oil and the paper insulation.

How Do We Dry Out a Transformer?
Moisture removal is critical to extending transformer life. Our automated transformer oil filtration system removes moisture, gases, and particulates from insulating oil — restoring dielectric strength and protecting the paper insulation that determines the transformer's lifespan.
